Antarctica, Polar Plunge
There's this odd thing that some people do when they visit polar waters—the jump into the freezing water only get back out as fast as they can. Some say they are crazy, and I don't disagree. Why do such a silly and pointless thing? I sure don't know. But it didn't stop me from doing it!
Here are a couple of photos (and a video!):
Here's the setup: The crew lowers the two Zodiac boarding platforms, gets the safety rescue boat ready at one and uses the other as a launching platform for our foolishness, makes us sign a waiver that says they are not responsible for any harm that comes from our lack of good sense, attaches a recovery rope to us should we pass out or some other nonsense as the result of us slamming into the freezing water, and we're free to jump.
BTW, this jumper is (obviously!) not me. This is some unknown (to me anyway) fellow passenger who did a particularly elegant swan dive in pursuit of her madness.
Here is video proof (no AI here!) that I am capable of being as stupid and foolish as anyone. Why did I do it? I really don't know, but I was exhilarated afterward!
I survived! I heard that the air temperature was 28° and the water was 31°. Rumors! Both felt much colder than that!
